Farm Plans for Irrigated Land Use
All MGI irrigators must have an Environmental Farm Plan to show how they are actively managing their property to achieve high standards of environmental performance. The Plans are required as part of MGI’s resource consents. MGI provides a template for the Plans that sets out the objectives and targets for environmental performance in 6 management areas that are important for irrigated land use: Irrigation; Soils; Nutrients; Collected animal effluent; Waterways; and Biodiversity.
Each property decides on suitable methods to achieve the objectives and independent audit checks are carried out regularly. On-farm monitoring and recording are necessary so that auditors can check performance and assess whether the objectives are being met.
