MGI has installed three 12kW hydroelectric turbines in the Bells Pond Mainrace and is generating electricity as an example of sustainable development and renewable energy on the back of the irrigation network.

The turbines are supplied by Emrgy Australasia (www.emrgy.com) and comprise three twin turbines (two pairs) that operate due to the current of flowing water in the canal making the impellors spin.

The project provides electricity to the adjacent farm irrigation pumps.
